How To: Tether an Android phone to Xbox LIVE with Windows 7
Imagine… Xbox LIVE via your Android phone. Amazing… if you can figure out how to do it. But don't worry, this video is here to save the day! Watch and learn how to tether your Android cell phone's internet to your Xbox LIVE using the help of Windows 7. After watching this, you'll have no problem connecting to Xbox LIVE via your Android phone's internet. This process involves tethering the smartphone to a Windows 7-based computer via USB, and then bridging that connection via Ethernet to the Xbox 360. You'll need to use PdaNet, which is a free tethering application which allows you to share the phone's internet connection with your PC and Xbox 360. Besides PdaNet, you will also need the MTU Setting Modifier. The computer used in this video was a 13" MacBook Pro running Windows 7. The phone used was an HTC Droid Incredible from Verizon Wireless running Android 2.1. Disclaimer: It is advised that you subscribe to a tethering plan if you are going to do this to avoid extra charges. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

How To: Block Porn Sites on Your iPhone

How To: Block Porn Sites on Your iPhone
There are many reasons to keep adult websites off your iOS device. They can pop up accidentally at the least opportune moments, can give your device malware, and are not welcome in a kid-friendly home.Plus, there's a chance that your porn viewing habits could become public one day (even if you use Private mode, which isn't even as "private" as it used to be), so it's best to go cold turkey right now, lest you want to be like one of the victims of the Ashley Madison hack.To keep porn and other adult-oriented sites from showing up in Safari on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, you have to tweak your restrictions, which I'll show below. If you have a serious porn addiction, this is the only way to deal with it, unless you want to get rid of your device altogether.

Step 1: Navigate to the Proper PreferencesTo get started, you'll need to navigate to Settings -> General -> Restrictions. If this is the first time entering the Restrictions preferences, you'll need to create a four-digit Restrictions passcode, which does not have to be the same as the lock screen passcode. Once you've successfully made your way into the Restrictions preferences, scroll down and select "Websites."

Step 2: Restricting WebsitesFrom here, you have two options besides unrestricted access: Limit Adult Content or Specific Websites Only. Let's go over both."Limit Adult Content" restricts access to pornographic and other adult-related websites. If there's a site that can still be accessed after enabling this, then you have the option to include it in the "Never Allow" blacklist. With the "Specific Websites Only" option, you can create a list of allowed sites. This means all other content will be blocked, excluding whatever you include in the list. This option is obviously more for kids, as you don't want to make your iOS device's web browser almost completely unusable and have to add every non-porn site you visit to the whitelist.

Step 3: Try It Out YourselfUsing any browser on the iOS device—Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.—navigate to a website. Chances are the first one you thought of was blocked, right? If your kid is using it and taps "Allow Website," they'll be immediately deflated when they see the passcode entry screen. Plus, it acts as a deterrent for your own porn-viewing habits. While these options are definitely more viable when letting your kids using your iOS device, they're still good at preventing potentially embarrassing adult sites from showing up on your screen unexpected in public (though, the blocked page could be just as embarrassing).

News: Samsung Is Bringing the Galaxy A6 to the US Budget Phone with a Flagship Screen

News: Samsung Is Bringing the Galaxy A6 to the US Budget Phone with a Flagship Screen
Samsung makes more than just the Galaxy S and Note series. With a large portion of the world not able to afford phones with flagship specs, Samsung makes several different series that focus on price. The latest is the Galaxy A6, a budget option with a flagship feature. The Galaxy A6 is a budget phone that you can actually watch videos on. Thanks to its Super AMOLED display, colors are crisp and contrast is fantastic. Combine that with its large screen, and this is one of the better options for those looking to enjoy videos on a budget. The rest of the spec sheet is good, especially when you consider the price.

SpecsOS: Android 8.0 Oreo Skin: Samsung Experience 9.0 CPU: Exynos 7884 (Octa-core running at 1.6 GHz) GPU: ARM Mali-G71 RAM: 3 GB Storage: 32 GB (expandable via microSD) Display: 5.6-inch Super AMOLED Resolution: 1480 x 720 Rear Camera: 16 MP (f/1.7) Front Camera: 16 MP (f1.9) Battery: 3,000 mAh Image via Samsung

5.6" Super AMOLED DisplayFor those on a budget, it's rare to find phones which offer Samsung's Super AMOLED display technology. AMOLED is typically reserved for phones much closer to midrange pricing because of its higher cost. Fortunately, Samsung makes the screens themselves and decided to include in the Galaxy A6.The Galaxy A6 has a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display. It is limited to 720p resolution, but it uses the 18:9 aspect ratio, so vertical and horizontal black bars shouldn't a problem when watching movies. Image via Samsung
Android 8.0 OreoSamsung included Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. While Android Pie would be nice, it is unlikely Samsung would include the OS on the A6, especially since at the time of writing, neither the Galaxy Note 9, S9, or S9+ use the latest version of Android. However, what is interesting about its use of Android 8.0 Oreo is Project Treble. Project Treble is the new way the operating system is organized on devices. Hardware compatibility with the new operating system is separate from the operating system, making it easier to implement software updates. This new organization method makes it easier for budget phones like the Galaxy A6 to get Android 9.0 Pie, a series customarily ignored.Additionally, combined that with its Exynos processor, it makes it possible for those in custom ROM community to create ROMs for the Galaxy A6, including ones not based on Samsung Experience. For a breakdown as to why this is the case, check out the link below.Don't Miss: Why Project Treble Is a Huge Win for Exynos Galaxy S9 Owners
Price & AvailabilityThe Samsung Galaxy A6 will be available on September 14 at an MSRP of $359.99. You will be able to purchase at Samsung's and Sprint's websites on that date, with other carriers following in the coming weeks. News: Here's What We Know About the Mysterious Triple Camera in Huawei's Upcoming Flagship

News: Here's What We Know About the Mysterious Triple Camera in Huawei's Upcoming Flagship
It seems like each day new rumors and leaks come out for Huawei's upcoming P series devices. Everything from its name change to its specs has been leaked, sometimes with contradicting rumors. One of the biggest leaks is the inclusion of triple rear cameras, a first for smartphones. While this rumor has been challenged, the latest leaks indicate that this will in fact be the case. Recent videos and images lend strong evidence that the P20 Pro will have the first triple camera array on a smartphone. While three cameras sound cool in principle, how it will assist in photography isn't known. Luckily, we do know a few things about this new camera beyond just the extra lens.Don't Miss: Huawei Teases the P20's Triple Camera in a Series of New Videos

It's Exclusive to the P20 ProAfter months of speculations, we now know that the triple rear camera will be exclusive the P20 Pro variant. The other phones in the series, P20 and P20 Lite, will use dual cameras. (1) P20, (2) P20 Plus. Images by Roland Quandt/Twitter

Vertical Lens ArrangementsMultiple leaks of the official design of the P20 Pro have emerged confirming the orientation of the camera arrangement. Despite the confusion from sources such as leaked schematics and hints from Huawei Mobile, it looks like all variants will use a vertical arrangement for the rear cameras. Images by Roland Quandt/Twitter Slashleak leaked a promotional photo for the P20 series that backs up the leaks. In the leak (see below), the back cover of the P20 Pro is shown with vertically-arranged rear cameras and a similar gap between the two lenses and the bottom single lens. Image via Slashleaks
40 MP Main ShooterAccording to WinFuture, the main camera sensor is capable of capturing 40 MP images. However, these lenses don't work independently. This lens is important as the amount of data collected for the image assists in achieving the 5x "hybrid zoom." While this isn't the first smartphone camera to take such high-resolution photos (the Nokia Lumia 1080 was able to take 41 MP photos), by using more lenses, the P20 Pro should be able to capture more detail than a single lens would allow.

5x Hybrid ZoomIn the NewRenassiance.com promotional video From Distance to Detail, Huawei highlights the P20's zooming capabilities. Evan Blass leaked this rumor a while back, saying the new P series devices would have a 5x "hybrid zoom." Image by Evan Blass/Twitter The hybrid zoom is a combination of optical and digital zoom. According to WinFuture, the optical zoom portion comes from the second sensor, which is an 8 MP telephoto lens capable of 3x zoom. This information is combined with the additional image data captured by the 40 MP main shooter, which is then used to create the additional 2x digital zoom while maintaining clarity.

20 MP Monochrome SensorHuawei Mobile created a P20 teaser website called NewRenaissance.com, which has several videos including a series of abstract clips which hint at some of the new features available to the P20's camera. One of the videos includes the image below which highlights two things.First, the red "A" and "I" alludes to machine learning image enhancements. Second, the title To Paint With Light (while showcasing a black and white photo) indicates the common monochrome and RGB lens setup of past Huawei's flagship will continue with the P20. By including a monochrome lens, Huawei devices are able to take breathtaking black and white photos, unlike most phones which achieve this using software. Image via HW WEU Huawei smartphones have been known to employ the monochrome sensor, and the P20 series is no exception. According to WinFuture, the third camera sensor is a 20 MP monochrome lens which is used for depth effects and improved sharpness and contrast. While not confirmed, the expectation is that Huawei will also allow users to use the lens independently to capture black-and-white photos.

Super Slow MotionIt looks like the trend started with Sony XZ Premium will be carried over to the P20 lineup. The super slow motion video (which can also be found on the Galaxy S9) looks to be making its way to the P20 series. A video tweeted by Ricciolo shows off the slow-motion capability. Based on the seven-second video, it looks like the P20 Pro's camera (and possibly the P20) will be capable of taking short videos at 960 fps. Image by Ricciolo/Twitter

Optical Image StabilizationAccording to the video To Steady Every Image, it looks like optical image stabilization (OIS) will be included on the rear camera. What we are not sure about is whether OIS will be included on all three cameras or just the main shooter. The video leads us to believe the former, as "to steady every image" suggests that monochrome, RGB, and telephoto pictures are all stabilized. Image by Huawei Mobile NL/YouTube
Light FusionWinFuture mentioned the inclusion a new system called "Light Fusion." The new feature will be included in both the rear and front camera, although no other information is known about the new system.

Co-Developed by LeicaSimilar to many of Huawei's flagship devices, the P20 Pro's camera will be co-developed by Leica and therefore carry its branding. The German camera manufacturer has been assisting Huawei for years, and the P20 will be no exception. This was later confirmed in a series of YouTube videos by Huawei Mobile Netherlands which showed the contribution. Image via Huawei Mobile NL
f/1.6 ApertureAccording to WinFuture, the P20 will have a f/1.6 aperture for its rear cameras. The P20 Pro will use the same aperture for its dual cameras, with the telephoto lens using a f/2.4.Additionally, the focal length is fixed on the P20 at 27 mm, while the P20 Plus' third lens will have a focal length of 80mm (indicating a 3x optical zoom).
Machine Learning EnhancementOut of all the rumors surrounding the capability of the P20's camera, machine learning enhancement is the one that we are definitely sure about.First, the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro included machine learning (AI) enhancements to photography. Specifically, the Mate 10 would use object recognition to automatically adjust camera parameters for the best settings when capturing a particular object. And thanks to Kirin 970's Neural Processing Unit, the Mate 10 was able to apply machine learning quickly and efficiently.Don't Miss: The Next Big Thing in Smartphone Cameras is Machine Learning In all the promotional videos released on the NewRenaissance.com, the letters "A" and "I" are highlighted in each title, emphasizing the inclusion of AI. Additionally, in one of the testimony videos (see below), Jessie states she wishes for smartphones to be "a bit quicker, more efficient, kind of more automatic," which indicates a larger role for machine learning in photography.

Great Low Light Performance & Fast Shutter SpeedBased on the video From Darkness to Light, Huawei teases the P20's great low light performance. As with most of the videos, we don't see much, but we can infer that the camera will be able to handle low-light situations with ease. Image by Huawei Mobile NL/YouTube Additionally, the video From Action To An Instant alludes to the P20 having a fast shutter speed, a necessary feature for great low light performance. Expect to be able to take out your P20 and quickly capture an image without fear of missing the moment. Image by Huawei Mobile NL/YouTube The P20's rear camera will be a monumental moment in smartphone history. Like OIS and dual cameras before it, we hope that the increased capability and performance of an additional lens will lead to mass adoption by other OEMs.But the P20 is much more than its rear camera. The display calibrations on the Pixel XL are terrible. The standard mode white balance are to cool and the colors are way oversaturated. This mode wouldn't be half bad if they would have gone down the colors and made the WB less blue. The sRGB mode is not great either. Why make the white balance lean towards green of all colors.

How To: Improve Your Battery Life on Android with Granular Power Controls

How To: Improve Your Battery Life on Android with Granular Power Controls
No matter how far technology advances, battery life continues to be an issue. Powerful new hardware is introduced each year, but smartphone batteries only get a few extra milliamp-hours to compensate. There are several power-saving Android apps that aim to help with this issue, but very few offer anything more than a placebo effect. However, a new Xposed module from developer Pyler is the real deal, marking one of the first true all-in-one battery saving apps with granular controls—something you'll likely never see on iPhones. The module works a lot like Sony's Stamina Mode in some ways, but it can also function on a per-app basis to help you tame battery-hogging apps like Facebook. In addition to all of that, it can even enable Doze Mode a lot faster, so it's already one of the best battery savers out there.
Requirementsrooted Android device Xposed Framework installed "Unknown sources" enabled

Step 1: Install Better Battery SaverTo get this one going, start by heading to the Download section in your Xposed Installer app, then search for Better Battery Saver, and tap the top result. From here, swipe over to the Versions tab, then hit the "Download" button next to the most recent entry, and press "Install" when prompted. Once that's finished, be sure to activate the module and reboot so that your changes will take effect.

Step 2: Grant Root Access & Review Battery-Saving OptionsWhen you get back up, go ahead and launch Better Battery Saver. The app will ask for Superuser access at this point, so tap "Grant" on the popup. From here, familiarize yourself with the entries on the main menu, as there are lots of settings to tweak, and I'll be covering each section individually.

Step 3: Adjust Per-App Battery Saving SettingsIf you'd like to enable a battery-saving mode on a per-app basis, head to App battery saving settings. From here, tick the box next to "Use app battery saving," then you'll see a list of all your installed apps. You can also enable the "Show system apps" option, but I wouldn't recommend this, because the tweaks you'll be making could break some core functionality. Either way you go, start by selecting any app in the list. Next up, enable the "Battery saving" option at the top of the screen. From here, use the Battery level threshold slider to set a percentage where the battery-saving tweaks will become active. Beyond that, simply go through the list and enable any battery-saving setting that you'd like to apply when this app is active and your battery level is below the threshold. Depending on the app, some features could break some functionality, so use your best judgement. If you have any issues, you can always come back later and deselect these options one-by-one to troubleshoot. When you're done there, you can repeat this same process for any other app on your phone. But there's a similar menu that we'll get to later which can apply most of these settings system-wide, so keep that in mind.

Step 4: Disable App ServicesAfter that, you'll have a chance to disable services for any of your apps, which could lead to some significant battery gains. Services are what apps use to run tasks while you're not actively using them, and they help with things like background data sync and prompt notifications. However, if an app is using services you don't need, disabling them can save you lots of battery life, because the app won't be running in the background as often. To try this out, head to the App services manager menu, then select any app. From here, deselect any unwanted service, and that function will no longer be performed in the background. Try to keep track of the services you disable here, because if you experience any bugs with this app in the future, you might have to turn some of them back on.

Step 5: Disable App ReceiversThis next section deals with broadcast receivers, which let apps receive information that is broadcast by the Android system. Think of this like the app asking Android, "Hey, let me know when you get a new text message, or if the device's location changes." Of course, each time the app receives this information, it has to wake from sleep to process it, which will drain some battery life.So to disable unwanted broadcast receivers, head to the Apps receivers manager section, then select any app from the list. From here, you can just untick the box next to any receiver, and the app will no longer force Android to give it an update on that front. But be careful, and make sure you understand the gist of each setting you disable here, because your apps might not function properly with certain receivers disabled.

Step 6: Adjust System-Wide Battery Saving SettingsFinally, the Battery saver settings menu is a lot like App battery savings, except the changes you make in this menu will apply system-wide. So to begin, use the Battery level threshold slider to set the percentage where you would like these settings to kick in.From there, select the "Start mode" option, then you can batch-select options for enabling Battery saver mode. If you select "Automatically," these tweaks will be applied at the battery level threshold you set, whereas "From notification" can be used to enable the tweaks manually, and "Parallel with Android battery saver" will start when your system battery saver mode kicks in. But the most interesting option here is "Parallel with Doze mode," which will activate these options when your phone has been laying flat and still for a period of time, though this requires Android 6.0 or higher.Once you've done that, select the "Exit mode" option, then choose the same options that you chose for Start mode. This will ensure that the battery-saving features turn off automatically without any interaction from you. Next, scroll down a bit, then tick the boxes next to any of the options in the After battery saver is on category. There are several great battery-saving tweaks to choose from here, including the ability to disable connectivity radios like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But the best feature here, in my opinion, is "Turn on Doze." This will force-enable Android's best battery-saving utility, though you'll need to be running Marshmallow or higher to use it.Once you've done that, scroll down a bit further, then you'll see a section labeled After battery saver is off. Go through each of these settings, and make sure to tick the boxes next to every setting you enabled under After battery saver is on. That way, when your battery is charged up again, everything will go back to normal automatically. With everything set up now, you should start to notice some significant gains in battery life—particularly when your battery level is low. Depending on how you set things up, these aggressive battery-saving measures will kick in around 15%, so that last bit of juice should last you quite a while.Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

News: How to Watch March Madness 2016 Live Online for Free

News: How to Watch March Madness 2016 Live Online for Free
Watching the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament without cable used to be easy. As long as you had an internet connection, CBS and Turner (TBS, TNT, and TruTV), which co-broadcast March Madness, let you watch all 67 games online free of charge.Even though restrictions have tightened a bit since 2013 (the last year that all of the games were streamed online for free), 2015 still saw a 10% rise in online viewership. With such high demand, it only makes sense that CBS, Turner, and the NCAA would stop giving the games away for free.So the bad news is, you're out of luck if you want to watch all of this year's March Madness games online for free. The worse news is, the Final Four and title games will only be broadcast on one of the Turner networks (it hasn't been decided which one yet), so you're going to need some sort of subscription if you want to watch it.Luckily, there are still a few lesser known ways to watch March Madness, the Final Four, and championship games for free.

Watching on SlingTo watch the Final Four and championship games for free, use Sling TV. They'll give you a 7-day trial when you sign up, so you can start the service on April 2nd when the Final Four games are played, then cancel it on April 4th after the title game. If you're okay with spending a little money, you can sign up for Sling at the beginning of the tournament and give yourself access to most of the games. Get the "Best of TV" package for $20 per month, which includes TBS and TNT, and Sling is also adding TruTV to the lineup through the duration of the tournament (note: CBS is not available on Sling). There's no contract with Sling, so you can cancel right after the tournament ends.

Streaming with CBS SportsSling doesn't carry local channels, but you'll be able to watch all of the games that CBS is broadcasting on CBSsports.com on your desktop or mobile device, or on the CBS Sports app for Android, iOS, or Windows. You can also get the app on Amazon Fire tablets and Fire TV, Apple TV (tvOS), Roku, and Xbox One. Also, you can watch a stream on the big screen using a Chromecast or by connecting your TV to an output on your computer.Tip: use the CBS Sports app to check all the scores during March Madness. The app claims to let you watch all 67 games in the tournament, but there's a caveat—only the games that CBS itself are airing are truly free. You'll need to log in with a valid cable or satellite subscription to stream the games shown on the Turner Networks, which are airing 46 of the games, including the Final Four and the championship game. This is the first time in the tournament's 78-year history that the title game will be broadcast on a pay network.
Streaming with NCAA March Madness LiveYou can also stream the games using the NCAA March Madness Live apps for web, Android, Apple TV (tvOS), iOS, Roku, Windows, and on Amazon Fire tablets and Fire TV.Just like with the CBS Sports apps, you will only be able to stream the games on CBS for free; Turner stations will require a subscription. However, the NCAA March Madness Live apps will be giving away 3 hours free of truTV, TNT, and TBS before asking to authenticate. So you could possibly use a VPN service to switch servers every 3 hours to keep getting that free airtime.
Watching on PlayStation VueIf you have a PlayStation 3 or 4, you can also use the Playstation Vue service, which carries CBS and all three Turner channels. There's also a 7-day free trial when you sign up, so you can use that to watch the Final Four and championship game for free. Be careful though, because it will automatically switch to a $40 per month subscription if you forget to cancel before the trial ends.Note that you'll only have access to Vue's live streaming for March Madness if you live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.

Using an HD AntennaIf you have a shaky internet connection at your house, or don't want to stream the games for some other reason, you'll also be able to watch the CBS broadcasts over-the-air with an antenna, allowing you to watch the games in high definition if you have an HD antenna. If you don't have one yet, you can build one yourself, or you can get $50 off select RCA models when you prepay for three months on Sling. This will run you about $90 for the cheaper model (the only difference is that there isn't a mount for the antenna). Or if you have $40, this antenna is a top pick.

How To: The Free Way to Save iPhone Voicemails on Your Mac

How To: The Free Way to Save iPhone Voicemails on Your Mac
Voicemails are like chores for me. I have to listen to them, but never really feel like doing it. When I finally do, most of them get deleted right away, but every so often they'll be one I save and listen to over and over again, whether it's a cute birthday wish from grandma or a hilarious joke from my friend. When you come across a voicemail that you want to keep forever, transferring it over to your computer makes total sense, but it's not a simple task to do if you have an iPhone. While there are apps like iExplorer and PhoneView, they cost too much to use just for a voicemail here and there.Instead of handing down any cash, I'm going to show you how to extract all of the voicemails on your iPhone to your computer and convert them into shareable files, all thanks to a few Terminal commands.Don't worry, the process might sound tedious, but it's straightforward and simple enough to understand as long as you follow the steps below.

Step 1: Back Up Your iPhoneIf you want the voicemails from the iPhone you're currently using, you'll need to backup your device through iTunes—not via iCloud. Do so by connecting your iPhone to your computer, opening iTunes, and clicking on Back Up Now from your iPhone's Summary page. If you want to pull voicemails from an older backup, skip directly to Step 2.

Step 2: Find the Backup FolderAfter the backup is complete, you'll need to find the folder where the iPhone backup is stored.Open Finder. Press and hold down the Option key. Click Go in the menu bar. Select Library. Go to Application Support -> MobileSync -> Backup. All of your iTunes backups will be in the Backup folder. Show all of your items in List View so that you can see the date for each backup. That way you'll find your most recent backup or older ones that you want to pull voicemails from.

Step 3: Copy & Rename the Backup Folder, Create iOSVoicemails FolderSince you don't want to mess up your backup (for future purposes), we're going to make a copy of the folder and paste it onto your desktop. Simply right-click on the backup folder and select Copy "Backup Folder Name". Now right-click on an empty space on your desktop and select Paste Item. Since these backups are pretty large, it might take a few seconds for the folder to copy over to your desktop.Rename the folder to something easier than those mess of letters and numbers by right-clicking on the folder, selecting Get Info and entering a name into the Name & Extension: box. Let's use iOSBackup as the name, to make things simple. Also, create a folder called iOSVoicemails on your desktop—this is where your voicemails will be saved.

Step 4: Create Script on Your DesktopIn a previous version of this guide, we had a much more complicated way of going about the process of extracting the voicemails from your backup. Thanks to WonderHowTo user Lauren Pattison, the process is now much more simple, thanks to a nifty script she wrote and provided to us.Open Terminal and enter the following:cd DesktopHit enter. This is to to set the directory. Now you're going to create the script by entering:vim voicemailscript.shAgain, hit enter. Now type:iThis will allow you to insert text. Now type the following text into Terminal, indentations and all. You can copy it here from the file on Pastebin, then paste into Terminal to make things easier. After pasting the text, hit the escape key on your keyboard and type in::wqAnd hit enter.

Step 5: Make Script Executable, Run ItStill in Terminal, type in:chmod a=r+w+x voicemailscript.shHit enter. This will make the script executable. Finally, type in:./voicemailscript.shAnd hit enter one more time, which will run the script. A list of all your voicemails will show up in Terminal.

Step 6: Listen to Voicemails, Convert Them to .M4AIn the iOSVoicemails folder on your desktop, you'll find all of the voicemails from your backup. When you find the voicemails that you want to keep/share, open them in QuickTime Player, go to File, click on Export and select Audio only.... Now press Save and your voicemail will be saved in an .m4a file that you can share and upload on the internet. And that's all there is to it.

How To: Automatically Refresh Your Google+ Feed on Android

How To: Automatically Refresh Your Google+ Feed on Android
Google+ doesn't have quite the user base of Facebook or Twitter, but for Android enthusiasts, it's definitely the place to be. All of the major developers—such as Chainfire and Koush—make their social media home on Google+, and the Android app sports one of the nicest interfaces of any comparable platform, chock-full of Google's Material Design. One minor gripe that many folks have with the otherwise-superb interface is the fact that you have to manually refresh your feed to see new posts. But developer Erwin Goslawski has remedied this issue with a simple app, so the Google+ users out there certainly don't want to miss out on this one. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Step 1: Install Refresher+Goslawski's app is called Refresher+, and it can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for free. Head to this link to get the app installed on your device.

Step 2: Enable the Refresher+ Accessibility ServiceWhen you first launch Refresher+, the app will ask you to enable its Accessibility Service. Tap "OK" on this message, then look for the Refresher+ Service entry on the next screen. From here, turn the service on, then press "OK" on the subsequent popup.

Step 3: Configure Additional OptionsWith the Accessibility Service enabled, back out to Refresher+. From the main menu, you can opt to keep the screen on while you're using the Google+ app, and you can set the refresh interval manually if you'd like.Considering that Refresher+ will automatically update your Google+ feed at the set interval, Goslawski implemented a Cooldown period that will postpone the refreshing if you're currently scrolling through your G+ feed. This prevents the app from bumping you back to the top of your feed if you've touched the screen within the last 10 seconds, but that period can be set manually here or turned off altogether with the Refresh immediately option. Once you have everything set to your liking, you can basically forget that you have Refresher+ installed. Any time you open your Google+ app from now on, the feed will be automatically updated.Have you found yourself using the Google+ app more often after applying this tweak? Let us know in the comment section below, or drop us a line on our Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ pages.

How To: Make Your Mac Look & Feel More Like Your iPhone

How To: Make Your Mac Look & Feel More Like Your iPhone
Is your Mac starting to feel messy and sluggish after using iOS 8 on your iPhone every day? Even with all of the iOS-friendly features built in to Mac OS X Yosemite, your Mac can still feel kind of "old" in comparison to an iOS device—but it doesn't have to. Using the tips and tricks below, you can easily make your Mac desktop or laptop look and feel like iOS 8 in no time.
How to Make Your Mac "Look" Like iOS 8First we'll get the aesthetics out of the way, then we'll move on to getting the iOS 8 feel in the following section.

Step 1: Use an iOS 8 WallpaperIf you want your Mac to look like an iPhone, changing the wallpaper is the logical first step. There are many iOS 8 wallpapers for the iPhone, and thanks to developer Delphox, you can download all of their desktop-sized equivalents using the .zip file below.Download: desktop-friendly iOS 8 wallpapers After unzipping the file, you can save all of them in a folder on your desktop (or wherever), then go to System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Desktop to choose your background from the options that appear on the left. If you don't see your folder, you can click on the + sign to add it to the list. As for placement, I chose the "Stretch to Fill Screen" option (since my display is pretty big), but "Fit to Screen" should work for you if you've got a laptop or smaller display. If you see bars on the top and bottom of the image, you should probably use "Stretch to Fill Screen."

Step 2: Use iOS 8 App IconsDtafalonso created a set of iOS 8 icons that you can use to replace all of the app icons in Mac OS X. These versions are all square with round corners and flat colors, just like on iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches. Note that this icon pack is incomplete, so you won't find icons for every app, but he is working on two more packs, so keep an eye on his Google+ page.Download: iOS 8 icons pack for Mac (click on the "Download" button to the right of the image on DeviantArt) Unzip the file, enter the "iOS 8 Icons" folder, then go to the "Icns" folder inside of that. There you will see the iOS 8-style icons for Mac applications such as Messages, Maps, iTunes, Photos, etc. Replace existing app icons individually by going to Applications, right-clicking on an app, selecting Get Info, then dragging the new app icon over to the old app icon that appears at the top-left of the window. New icons won't show up automatically, so you'll need to open the app and close it to make the new icon appear. Yes, you'll have to do this one by one, but it shouldn't take too long (~5 minutes for me). If you want to speed up the process and do them all at once, there's an app called LiteIcon that can do all the heavy lifting for you.To revert back to your original Mac icons, simply click on the new app icon at the top left in Get Info, then hit Delete on your keyboard.

Step 3: Edit Desktop View OptionsNow that you've made desktop and app icons in Mac OS X Yosemite look more like iOS 8, it's time to edit existing features and options. Start by managing what the desktop looks like by right-clicking on it to go to Show View Options.Edit your desktop in this way:Icon size: 128 x 128 Grid spacing: all the way to the right Text size: 16 Label position: Bottom Show item info: Uncheck Show icon preview: Check Sort by: Snap to Grid

Step 4: Add Apps to Your DesktopNow that the desktop view is all set, add some applications (preferably ones with icons you got from Dtafalonso's icon pack) to your desktop by dragging their app icon over on top your iOS 8 background. Then place all loose files into a folder and arrange all the icons in a neat manner.

Step 5: Increase Dock Size, Prevent App Bouncing, & MoreWith the desktop all set to go, it's time to get your dock looking more like iOS 8. Open the dock, then right-click on the divider and choose Dock Preferences from the list. On this page, do the following:Size: Large Magnification: Doesn't matter Position on screen: Bottom Minimize windows using: Genie effect Check the box next to Minimize windows into application icon and Show indicators for open applications Uncheck the other three options With these features, your app icons will no longer bounce when they open and your open windows will minimize into the app icon itself, giving the dock a cleaner look.

Step 6: Add Spaces to the Dock & Choose AppsTo make your dock look more aesthetically pleasing, use my previous guide on how to add blank spaces to your dock. Since there is no way to get rid of the Finder and Trash icons, I simply added two spaces on both ends of the dock, with four of my most used apps in the middle. Obviously, feel free to add more apps and not use any spaces at all—it's all about preference and customization here—but I wanted my dock to be minimal, with the rest of my apps resting on the desktop instead.

Step 7: Add More Icons to Menu BarWhile the left side of the menu bar isn't going to look much like the one on your iOS device, you can adjust the right side, where app icons and the date reside.System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> check the box next to "Show Bluetooth in menu bar" System Preferences -> Date & Time -> Clock-> make sure only digital time is showing (no date) System Preferences - > Energy Saver -> check the box next to "Show battery status in menu bar" Download and install Loading, which adds a iOS-like network activity icon to your Mac OS X menu bar (make sure to enable apps from unidentified developers)

Step 8: Increase Display Contrast & Cursor SizeThis step involves increasing display contrast by going to System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Display, then placing the "Display contrast" cursor on the second hash mark. This will improve colors and make it appear more like the IPS display on an iPhone. While this is purely optional, I made the cursor size the largest possible because I wanted it to be the equivalent of what a finger-press would look like on my iPhone.

Step 9: Add a "Lock Screen" Screen SaverWhile it's not officially a lock screen, you can mimic your iPhone's lock screen by adding an iOS-type screensaver to your Mac. Just follow Neil's guide, which provides the download links and everything you need to get the screensaver set up.

Final Result: Yosemite vs. iOS 8 Looks on a MacAfter all the changes, my desktop went from this: To this iOS 8-style look:

Check out the list below to see which features from iOS you can add to Mac OS X Yosemite.Install Siri Unlock with Touch ID Make Phone Calls Send SMS and Voice Messages Use Predictive Text Add Widgets to the Notification Center Add Control Center Whether you use some or all of the above tweaks, your Mac should now look and feel like iOS 8 on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. News: Google's Camera App Is Getting a New Feature Photographers Will Love

News: Google's Camera App Is Getting a New Feature Photographers Will Love

Google Camera, the default shooting app on Nexus devices, is finally getting a feature we've been anticipating for years. As evidenced by a recent APK teardown done by Android Police, the beginnings of a new RAW capture mode have already been baked into the latest version of the app, which indicates that Google Camera will soon have the ability to store an unprocessed copy of the exact image your camera sensor captures.Don't Miss: The Best Free Camera Apps for Android The way things will work should be simple: after enabling the new setting, two versions of each image will be stored when you take a picture. The first version will be the same JPEG format we've grown accustomed to, complete with a bit of automatic post-processing done by the Google Camera app. The second version will be a DNG file (otherwise known as a RAW image), and it will be entirely free of any compression or processing. RAW vs JPEG capture with post-processing. Image by Reddit/DentThat RAW image capture was made possible by an API released nearly two years ago alongside Android Lollipop, so it's been a long time coming. But the feature allows for more fine-tuned photo editing after the fact, as the unprocessed DNG file hasn't already been tainted by JPEG compression or Google Camera's own post-processing.In other words, RAW images are the exact picture that was captured by your camera sensor, so when it comes time to do a bit of editing in Photoshop or similar programs, you're not working against any tweaks made by your camera app's automatic post-processing. This means that, with a little bit of work, you can potentially create a better-looking end product than if you had initially set out to edit the already-processed JPEG file that most camera apps output by default.Follow Gadget Hacks on YouTube, Facebook, Google+, and Twitter Follow Android Hacks on Facebook and Twitter Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook and Twitter

How To: Make the Scariac (A Poor Man's Variable Power Controller)

How To: Make the Scariac (A Poor Man's Variable Power Controller)
Mixing water and electricity is extremely risky and potentially lethal, yet that's exactly what I did with the Scariac. In its simplest form, the Scariac is just a glorified version of two wires in a bucket of water, but it's actually one of the cheapest power controllers you can make. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
WARNING!This project is extremely dangerous and should only be attempted by those highly skilled in working with electricity.High voltages and high currents passing through the water provide an open hazard of electrocution, and may cause death. This design does not include any electrical ground. This system is not recommended as a safe device. Its purpose, rather, is to regulate electrical current in a simple and low cost way. Toxic gases may be released from the solution during operation. This project should not be attempted without adult supervision and adequate training. Misuse, or careless use, of tools or projects may result in serious injury. Use of this video content is at your own risk. Now that that's out of the way...
Making a Poor Man's Power ControllerI needed a way to adjust the power running to my homemade stick welding system, as seen in the video below: Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
Even with enough power to the welder, the main problem was finding a system that could vary electrical current without costing an arm and a leg.In a tight situation, it's good to be aware of options, and that's why I was happy to learn about the idea of the water resistor.

Variac vs. ScariacI got the name "Scariac" (with permission) from YouTube user acronus in his video on making a homemade Variac. It's a fitting name since the system acts very similar to a Variac. The idea is to use a water-based medium as an electrolytic resistor. A bit of electrolyte is added to the solution to make it slightly conductive, and when two electrodes are placed in the solution, the allow more or less current to flow, depending on whether there are closer or further apart. In its simplest form, this device is just a glorified version of two wires in a bucket of water.

"How I Did" vs. "How To"Although I've taken thought to minimize risks in operation, I have to stress that I don't consider this device safe or foolproof. It has the potential to be lethal, and even though I show step-by-step how it was made, this is more of a "How I Did" project rather than a "How To." The system has a power lever to vary current output, and a loop of wire for connecting an ammeter. The outlet on the board is where the devices plug in, and the switch acts as a kill switch to turn the device completely on or off at will.
ADDITIONAL WARNINGThere is no grounding wire connected, as stated before, and always possibility of failure in any part of the system. So, extreme caution and respect is needed when operating. The device doesn't have any internal fuse, circuit breaker, or current-limiting device, so there is also risk of fire if the system shorted out and your home circuit protection system failed. This fire could potentially happen inside the walls of your home.

Using Electrolyte as a Variable ResistorI used a water-based medium for the variable resistance.2 gallons of tap water (distilled water will also work great, but is more expensive) 1/4 teaspoons of 100% Lye (NaOH) Even though the amount of lye is very low, it makes the water conductive very quickly.I found my lye in a drain cleaner from the hardware store. 100% lye in fact! Any salts could probably be used as an electrolyte, but using something like table salt (NaCl) seemed to introduce the possibility of generating chlorine gas, and that's why I went with the NaOH instead.

Additional ConsiderationsDuring operation, the electrolysis does produce some gas, however it seems to be minimal when supplying with AC power. DC would be a much greater concern. The system is also open (ventilated) so any gas generation escapes quickly. In my experience, this doesn't give hydrogen and oxygen gases enough time to build up to a dangerous level, and I wasn't able to achieve any gas explosions, even at ultra-high power settings, despite trying. However, it is good to be aware of the risks, and operate in a well-ventilated area as a precaution.Well, there you have it! That's how I sacrificed safety to build a variable power controller on a very small budget. If you haven't see the video yet, it's not too late. Watch it here!If you like this project perhaps you'll like some of my others. Check them out at thekingofrandom.com.
