How To: Return Your HTC One to 100% Stock (Unroot & Update)
Returning your device to stock, whether it is because you need to sell it or just want to receive OTAs again, is not always a simple process. Since HTC has released countless variations of both the M7 and M8 HTC One, it can be a pain in the ass finding the right files and tools to get your phone back to stock settings.The general process is mostly the same across all devices, but the files and exact steps vary depending if you are using a Sense or Google Play Edition device. Before getting started, I'd recommend reading this entire guide one time to make sure your device meets all the qualifications.
PrerequisitesYour HTC One MUST be S-Off. Root permission will also be needed if you plan on resetting the warning flags on your bootloader menu. In order to avoid any hiccups during file transfers, you will need to use a USB 2.0 port when connecting your One to your computer. ADB and Fastboot will be need in order to send the install commands to your device. It does not matter whether you are using a Windows PC or Mac, just be sure that you are using the latest version of ADB/fastboot. Enable USB Debugging in order to send ADB commands to your One. It should go without saying, but this will completely wipe your device, so be sure to back up your pictures, music, and videos before starting.
If You Are Coming from a Converted Google Play Edition M8The Google Play Edition version of the HTC One M7 is fairly simple to convert back and forth between Sense and Vanilla Android, but that is not the case with the M8. Due to some system partition size differences, you must first flash a Sense firmware file before being able to go back to stock Sense. If you are using a converted M7, you can skip this section and go directly to "Reset Warning Flags" below.

Step 1: Reset CIDThe CID of your device is one of the many indicators that decides which firmware and ROMs you can install. Since you converted your original CID to the Google version you will need to bring it back to a Sense compatible version to install the appropriate firmware file. In this case we will use the universal Super CID. To get started plug your device into your computer, open up either Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac/Linux), and then enter the following commands:adb reboot bootloader fastboot oem writecid 11111111 fastboot reboot Once your device reboots, do not unplug it from your computer.

Step 2: Reset MIDIf you needed to change your MID in order to flash the Google Play Edition RUU, you now need to change it back in order to flash your original carrier's ROM.Download the MID Changer Tool, created by XDA user squabbi, onto your phone and flash it in TWRP recovery.To boot into recovery mode, press and hold down the power and volume down buttons until you see the bootloader menu. Under HBOOT, you will see Recovery, so select it with the power button and wait for TWRP to start. Once you are in TWRP, tap Install, select the MID Changer Tool file, and then swipe to install. The Aroma installer will then start automatically, so go through the warning screen and when prompted, select the carrier you want to revert back to. After the flash is completed, do not tap reboot—instead, go back to the main menu, tap Reboot and select Bootloader.

Step 3: Flash Sense Splash ScreenYou may have noticed that when you converted your M8 that the HTC logo that appeared when you turned on your device was switched to a Google logo. Unfortunately, this image cannot be restored when flashing the original carrier files, so instead we will need to flash a file through fastboot. Download the original Sense splash screen to your computer, then enter the following fastboot commands:fastboot oem rebootRUU fastboot flash zip "location-of-splash-screen.zip" This command will then take about a minute to complete, but once it does, you will see a line that reads FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately). Your One will also reboot once that last command is issued, so wait until you see the HTC logo again before continuing with the following:fastboot flash zip "location-of-splash-screen.zip" fastboot reboot-bootloader

Step 4: Flash Sense FirmwareNow that you have the Super CID and original MID flashed onto your One, you are ready to install the Sense firmware. Download the Sense firmware onto your computer and place it somewhere you can easily access it. With your device still at the bootloader menu and plugged into your computer, use these commands to install the firmware ZIP file:fastboot oem rebootRUU fastboot flash zip "location-of-firmware.zip" Just like in the previous step, wait until you see FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately) in the terminal windows and for your M8 to display the silver HTC logo. Now issue the following:fastboot flash zip "location-of-firmware.zip" fastboot reboot-bootloader Again, leave your device plugged in and at the bootloader menu once the command are completed.

Step 5: Wipe Your Device from Stock RecoveryYour M8 is now running a Sense-based firmware, but it is still not partitioned correctly to accept the stock Sense ROM files, so you'll need to boot into the stock recovery and factory reset your device storage.Make sure that HBOOT is highlighted in your bootloader menu, then press the power button. From the HBOOT menu, scroll down to Recovery using the volume down button, then press the power button again. Once you see the HTC One with a red exclamation point, hold down the volume up button and press the power button. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset, press the power button, and scroll down to the "Yes" option. After the reset is finished, select reboot to bootloader.

Step 6: Install TWRPThe last thing to do is flash a Sense-based ROM so that we can eventually get rid of the warning flags at the top of the bootloader menu.In order to flash a ROM, you'll need to download a copy of the latest M8 TWRP file and flash it to your device. Place the downloaded TWRP.img file somewhere safe on your computer, then enter the following commands:fastboot flash recovery "location-of-TWRP.img" fastboot reboot-bootloader

Step 7: Wipe in TWRPNow TWRP is installed on your device as a custom recovery, so use the HBOOT menu to boot into it like we did in Step 3. Once TWRP boots up, tap Wipe and swipe to perform a full factory reset.

Step 8: Sideload Sense ROMTo install a Sense ROM onto your M8, I'll be using the latest ARHD ROM by Android Revolution HD. However, unlike traditional ROM installatios, we will need to sideload it since we do not have a ROM.zip file in internal storage. To start the process, tap Advanced -> ADB Sideload and swipe. Now sideload the ROM to your phone using the following ADB command:adb sideload "location-of-ROM.zip You may also want to check the description of your ROM to see if there is an Aroma installer associated with the installation. If there is, make sure you keep your M8's screen on the entire time because if it locks, you'll have to start over. After the sideload is complete, tap Reboot, set up your M8 as if it was brand new, and enable USB Debugging. Your M8 is now running a rooted, Sense-based ROM so we can finally get started on returning it to HTC's factory conditions.

Reset Warning FlagsThe telltale sign that your device has been modified is the Warning Flags at the top of your bootloader menu. These either say something like "UNLOCKED" or "TAMPERED" and can prevent you from getting your phone serviced if you send it to HTC.In order to set those indicators back to their original state, you'll need to enter a few ADB commands while your device is booted to a Sense-based ROM. The commands vary between the M7 and M8, so make sure you are using the correct one. After the commands are issued, leave your One plugged into your computer and on the bootloader menu.
M8 CommandsTo remove TAMPERED:adb shell su echo -ne '\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=1 seek=5314564 exit exit adb reboot To switch from UNLOCKED to LOCKED:adb shell su echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 bs=1 seek=33796 exit exit adb reboot-bootloader Your bootloader menu should now only display LOCKED at the top.
M7 CommandsTo remove TAMPERED:adb shell su echo -ne '\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 bs=1 seek=4265988 exit exit adb reboot To switch from UNLOCKED to LOCKED:adb shell su echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=33796 exit exit adb reboot-bootloader Your bootloader menu should now only display LOCKED at the top.
Finding the Right RUU for YouYou now have a device that has no indication of being modified, but in order to get the software back to stock, you'll need to use a RUU, aka ROM Update Utility. The RUU installs all of the original, carrier-specific system files that shipped with your device, so be sure to download the file that matches your device exactly.M8 RUU.zip FilessVerizon M8 RUU.zip (courtesy of Dottat). Check for OTAsYour One will now boot up as if it were a brand new device, so go ahead and enter your Google credentials to begin restoring all of your apps and contacts.You will also need to check for OTA updates since some of these RUUs are outdated (Settings -> About -> Software Updates). It may take a few hours for updates to be pushed to your device, so be patient. OTAs will install just fine as long as you have an unrooted, unmodified device.
Set HTC One to S-OnIf you're planning on sending your device in for repairs, you need to go from S-Off to S-On. Know that if you do this, there is no way of going back without paying for the Sunshine utility, so only do this if you really need to. In the Harry Potter world, there was a character by the name of Beedle the Bard, who told a story about witnessing the three Peverell brothers building a bridge out of magic and successfully crossing a very dangerous river that had claimed many lives.Death was upset that they had survived, but being the sly and cunning figure that he was, offered to give each brother an artifact of great power knowing it would eventually lead to their deaths.The Peverell brothers chose the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility, which later became known as the Deathly Hallows. The symbol for it can be seen below, in the hands of Xenophilius Lovegood. The symbol, and the three artifacts it represents, played a prominent role throughout the movie, helping Harry ultimately defeat Lord Voldemort. In fact, the symbol has been so popular that it spurred Muggles around the world to permanently tattoo the Deathly Hallows on themselves. Image via imgur.com The clock, made from craft wood and LEDs, is powered and controlled by an Arduino Uno Rev3 and can be plugged into a USB wall outlet. The LED ring partitions represent the hours, while the wooden hand stands for minutes.At midnight, all of the LEDs are turned off, with each one turning on by the hour. At noon, all of LEDs are turned on, with each one shutting off for each hour passed. He cut the each end of the three pieces of wood into 30 degree angles—something he said was very tedious. He then stained the inside of the triangle and glued the three pieces together. He used really thin wood and wet it to bend into the perfect circle, which he then glued with epoxy at a 10 inch diameter. He also stained the outside of the circle. He then used 12 LEDs for the hours, two smaller red LEDs for the minute hand, and a 180 degree servo. He added buttons on the side of the clock to control the hours and minutes. He then added foil to reflect the LED light and inserted the LEDs pointed downward, all covered with a dark folder to dim the LEDs. He used electrical tape layer of epoxy to reinforce everything. App and folder placement follows a strict grid on iOS from left to right, top to bottom. No exceptions, and that's how Apple wants it. So you might think without a jailbreak you're stuck with this layout — but you're wrong.Thanks to developers William Stoy, Gabriel Whaley, and Eric Aragon, true home screen customization is no longer exclusive to software tinkerers. Through the use of their simple web application, MAKEOVR, anyone with an iPhone 5 or higher can customize the layout of their home screen with just a few simple steps.Don't Miss: How to Change Home Screen Icons with Supported Apps

Step 1: Screenshot Your WallpaperWhile MAKEOVR used to offer custom wallpapers on its site, these options have since been removed. You'll need to use your own wallpaper instead.Ensure your desired wallpaper is set up as "Still" rather than "Perspective" on your home screen. You can check this by heading to "Wallpaper" in Settings, then tap your home screen wallpaper. Step 2: Upload Your Image via MAKEOVRNow, head over to MAKEOVR. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and tap "Start MAKEOVR." Clear the instructions, as you've already completed them, then tap "Upload" on the following page. Choose "Photo Library," then locate and tap on your home screen screenshot to start the upload.

Step 3: Generate PlaceholdersOnce you upload your image, the application will do its magic and create cutouts of your wallpaper that work as invisible placeholder icons. These placeholders are the pieces you use to create spaces between apps and reformat your layout.To export a particular piece, tap on it. The page will reload, now with your piece outlined in red. Tap the share icon and choose "Add to Home Screen." iOS will then ask you to label the icon; skip that part and select "Add." Unfortunately, you can't save more than one icon at a time, so you will need to repeat this process for all of the icons, or at least, the ones you need.

Step 4: Arrange Your IconsOnce you have the icons on your home screen, strategically place them wherever you need to create the effect you're going for. Since the icons might be out of order, and difficult to place at first glance, it might take some trial and error before you match them perfectly. Think of it like a jigsaw puzzle and have some fun. With the right planning, you can place your apps anywhere in the grid. The results look great when still but remember — any motion will break the illusion. To remove the placeholder icons, delete them like you would any app on your home screen. So, this works best when you have just one home screen page full of apps and folders. That way the only time you see the placeholder icons is when you swipe away to the Today View for your widgets.Technically, you could make these icons yourself using bookmarks with Apple Configurator 2 on a Mac. You'd have to mimic MAKEOVR's system, creating up to 24 icons perfectly mapped to your home screen. Of course, using MAKEOVR is just so much easier than that. Redoing Your LayoutIf you accidentally delete some of your icons down the road or have any reason to download new icons, you don't need to repeat this entire process all over again. Instead, just tap on one of your icons — Safari will open, with your original layout all ready to go. Just download the icons you need again, and you'll be all set. Not all threats to our privacy come from hackers thousands of miles away. Often, we just want to keep our data safe from those around us, who may snoop in our phones or demand we reveal our secrets. That's where BlackBerry Locker comes in.Starting with the BlackBerry KEYone, every BlackBerry smartphone manufactured by TCL (including the new KEY2) comes preinstalled with BlackBerry Locker, a password-protected folder. Integrated into the hardware, BlackBerry Locker is a well-protected folder that can not only keep files locked away, but hide entire apps. It's with this level of protection that it can guard your most sensitive data.

Step 1: Password-Protect Your LockerWhen you first open Locker, you'll be prompted to create a password. This password is used in the encryption of your Locker and should be stored safely (preferably in a password manager).After inputting your password, BlackBerry Locker will ask if you wish to activate fingerprint authentication, which you can accept by placing your registered finger on the scanner. Once completed, your Locker is secured and will be populated with three icons: Photo Gallery, Private Files, and Firefox Focus (for private browsing).

Step 2: Protect & Hide Files and AppsAny app installed on your device can be relocated to BlackBerry Locker. After opening Locker, select the floating action button located in the bottom-right corner and choose "Add Apps." Select the apps you wish to move to the Locker, then tap the checkmark in the upper-right corner when you're finished. Now, to use the apps you moved, you must first unlock Locker.Locker can also hide these apps to prevent them from being found in other areas of your phone like your app drawer. By selecting the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the main page and choosing "Hide private apps," your apps will only be accessible via keyboard shortcuts and the Locker. Therefore, unless someone knows the shortcut, an unauthorized user won't even know about the app. And if they do know the shortcut, it's still password-protected.Files of any type can also be transferred to the Locker in a similar fashion. Using the same floating action button on the main page, select "Add Files." A new screen will emerge showing common file types, including "Installers" (APK) and "Archives" (ZIP). If the file you are looking for is one of those file types, you can select the corresponding option to reveal a list of all files of that type. However, you can also select "Others" to access all non-root folders to locate any file. When you move files into the Locker, they're automatically hidden from other areas of your phone, so you don't need to go through the additional step of hiding them like you did with the apps.

Step 3: Hide Locker (Optional)Let's say you hide personal apps and files in Locker and lend your phone to your significant other, believing it's safe and sound. If they are already suspicious and see the Locker app, they may demand access to it, revealing all the information you were trying to hide. Thankfully, this can be avoided by hiding Locker itself.Using the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the main page, choose "Advanced settings." Select the checkbox next to "Hide Locker in launcher" to hide the Locker app. With this feature enabled, Locker will no longer appear on the BlackBerry launcher or in your app drawer. You will need to either search for the app in the app drawer or use a custom shortcut to launch the app. Notice how I said BlackBerry launcher. This feature doesn't always work with third-party home screen apps such as Nova Launcher. Step 4: Launch Locker from the Lock Screen (Optional)If you'd like faster access to your Locker, select the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the main page and choose "Advanced settings." Tap the checkbox next to "Open Locker from lock screen."Once selected, you will be prompted to touch the fingerprint sensor with a finger. This finger is important, as it will be the only finger you can use to launch Locker from the lock screen. I would suggest not using the thumb you typically use to unlock the phone unless you want to always jump into Locker. I would also suggest to not use the other thumb if you often switch hands to grip the phone.Instead, use another finger (such as your index finger) so you can easily separate the authentication and not accidentally unlock the Locker unintentionally. You will need to register the new finger if it is currently not registered on your BlackBerry phone, but you can do that within the same prompt.

Step 5: Automatically Store Pictures in the Locker (Optional)One of the niftier features of Locker is the ability to send pictures directly to the Locker. Specifically, pictures you just captured. With the BlackBerry camera app open, lightly tap the space bar. The phone will capture the picture but will store the image directly in the Locker. When done correctly, you will see a key icon over a blurred out image indicating this is a protected picture. BlackBerry Locker offers top-tier protection for your local files and apps. Recognizing the need of their users to protect their information from people around them, BlackBerry provided the ability to not only password-protect their data, but to hide it from plain sight. Method 2: Install Using Cydia Impactor (UncOver & Chimera)You can install Unc0ver or Chimera using Cydia Impactor to sideload either tool into your iPhone. Of course, you'll need a Mac or PC if you choose to go this route, along with the latest IPA file for either one, which you can download into your computer by clicking on the link below.IPA Link: Unc0ver jailbreak tool (v3.0.1) IPA Link: Chimera jailbreak tool (v1.0.4) Once you have all the files you need, the process for sideloading either tool using your computer basically involves plugging your iPhone into your Mac or PC using a USB to Lightning cable or USB-C to Lightning cable, opening Cydia Impactor, and dragging the IPA file for Unc0ver directly into it. Enter your Apple ID when prompted, and wait for the process to complete. To add to that, your certificate's weekly limit doesn't affect your iPhone's jailbreak in any way — provided it stays powered on.If it shuts down for any reason, however, and more than a week has passed, you'll need to drag and drop the IPA file onto Cydia Impactor again and go from there. At any rate, proceed to the second step once you've successfully sideloaded either Unc0ver or Chimera into your iPhone.

Step 2: Trust Your ProfileYou'll still need to trust yourself as a developer before you can open your jailbreak tool of choice — irrespective of what method used in the first step. So don't open the app just yet, and follow the menu below to get into "Device Management." Settings –> General –> Device Management Once inside the Device Management page, tap on either "Lebo International Investment Development" if you installed Unc0ver via Safari, or tap the Apple credentials you entered if you sideloaded Unc0ver or Chimera with Cydia Impactor. Next, "Trust" either one on the following page. Now, hit "Trust" one last time from the prompt that appears to finish up, then exit out of Settings, and continue on to the final steps.

Step 3: Delete iOS Update from Storage (If Needed)Before you jailbreak your iPhone, you'll still need to get rid of any iOS software updates you may have saved inside your phone's storage. Otherwise, executing a jailbreak will result in a fatal error and failure. That said, we recommend playing it safe to ensure the process is as smooth as possible. Settings –> General –>
iPhone Storage –> iOS 12.x.x Open the "iPhone Storage" menu to check for saved iOS updates. Scroll down and tap on "iOS 12.x.x." From there, hit "Delete Update," and confirm its deletion from the prompt that appears.

Step 4: Open Either UncOver or Chimera & Execute the JailbreakYou're now free to commence with jailbreaking your iPhone, so disable all internet connections and enable Airplane Mode, then open either the Unc0ver or Chimera app, and hit the "Jailbreak" button. Note that the process is done in stages, so you'll need to reopen either app after your iPhone reboots, and repeat the process at least three times for the jailbreak to successfully kick in. You'll see a few "Notice" pop-ups the first couple times that you'll need to hit "OK" on. Jailbreaking using Chimera. Once your device has been jailbroken successfully, a super fast full-screen "Jailbreak Completed" notification will briefly flash to notify you (Unc0ver) or just respring outright (Chimera). Once it boots up, an icon for either Cydia (Unc0ver) or Sileo (Chimera) will now be present on your home screen. The way is now clear for you to open either app and start installing various (available) tweaks to customize your iPhone and truly make it your own. You can even install Sileo from Cydia if you'd rather use that over Cydia.
Important NotesThough we've already mentioned it above, we need to stress that both jailbreak methods are semi-untethered, which means you'll have to re-enable the jailbreak as shown on Step 4 each time your iPhone powers down — intentionally or otherwise. That being said, you don't need to worry about re-enabling tweaks and mods you've set, as they will automatically work once your jailbreak kicks back in.Also note that the process may differ slightly between devices, in terms of how many times you'll to repeat the process in order for the jailbreak to bite. While testing Unc0ver on an iPhone 8 on iOS 12, for instance, we found that the jailbreak finally installed after more than 15 attempts involving multiple reboots. But on an iPhone X running iOS 12.1.2, it only took three times for both Unc0ver and Chimera. So be prepared to try and try again if your iPhone fails to jailbreak the first few attempts.Finally, it's important to mention that while you can install and use Chimera to override your existing Unc0ver-based jailbreak, doing so will effectively disable Cydia, and by extension, all the tweaks you've installed using that app. This means you'll need to reinstall your tweaks again using Sileo.We'd love to get your feedback regarding this jailbreak method, so don't hesitate to leave a comment below to let us know how smooth (or rough) the process was overall for your particular iPhone. Requirementsrooted OnePlus 3 or 3T Magisk installed stock firmware or OxygenOS-based custom ROM installed

Step 1: Download TP-FWTo begin, tap the link below from your OnePlus 3 or 3T to download the Magisk module that fixes touchscreen lag, which is called TP-FW.Download the TP-FW Magisk module (.zip)

Step 2: Install the ModuleAfter downloading the file, open the Magisk Manager app and use the side panel to navigate to Modules. Then, tap on the yellow action button and select the ZIP file you just downloaded. Magisk will automatically install the module and prompt you to reboot, so tap the "Reboot" button to wrap up installation.

Step 3: Enjoy Lag-Free ScrollingOnce your phone has rebooted, you'll see that the Magisk module is now active. Try scrolling in Chrome or Instagram, and you'll immediately notice the difference. If Instagram isn't your thing, then go ahead and text your best friend. Tell them about this awesome module, I'm sure they'll appreciate the faster response time. If OnePlus does issue an update to fix the touchscreen latency in the near future, you can just as easily uninstall TP-FW through Magisk Manager — just tap on the little garbage can icon next to the module.
